Bless Gameology’s heart, it really didn’t want me to find it then do a review on it, and for the life of me, I don’t know why. First, they moved locations from Foothill Blvd. to Central Ave. in Montclair. Then, I’m normally in the I.E. on Monday and Tuesday, and guess what days they’re not open? No big deal for me, I remember when we used to kid around that Monday and Tuesday should be a “retail weekend” anyway, so I couldn’t begrudge them that. So, I’m finally able to make it in on a say where they’re open, and what’s up? Yep, they’re remodeling!

None of this should be held against them, though! You can tell just looking at the place that it’s a solid shop. Good space full of gaming tables, nice selection of board games, Role Playing Games and Collectible Card Games. If you’re looking for something to do while waiting for your opponent to finish their turn, there’s a small selection of comic books as well, most of the standards from DC and Marvel.

When I was in there, it was fairly busy for a weekday afternoon, but the gentleman behind the counter was friendly to everyone, including the “problem customer” he was having to deal with that followed me in.  The Customer Service Rep in me always feels bad for sales people/shopkeepers when I see them having to deal with customers who are demanding and make outrageous claims like they invented the question mark, yet I also enjoy watching the good ones deal with the situation. This shopkeeper was very good, very firm and to the point without being rude, and I did appreciate hearing how it all went down. I love it when the CSR or Manager is smiling and helpful, with good recommendations and advice, which this gentleman was. I was also impressed when I approached him with questions, how easily he knew the answers and how quick he was to recommend other area shops that could fill my needs a bit easier.

My initial impression with Gameology is it’s a place I want to check out when they’re done remodeling, on a busy day when the gaming section is full of people throwing dice or chucking cards or moving counters around on a board. I really want to go in and check the vibe on those days, because I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a good one. Everything I read online from numerous people all say the same thing, and that’s the vibe I felt when I went in.

Gameology is located in the town of Montclair on Central Ave. They’re inside the Mayfair Shopping Center on the west side of Central Ave. Anyone that is into the types of games that do NOT involve a controller, mouse, or keyboard, or anyone who wasn’t to try a board game that’s not Monopoly or Chutes & Ladders, I recommend checking these folks out. They go to show that there is some things worth while outside of the L.A. area. You just need to keep your eyes open.
